چکیده

The development of single-shot, high-dynamic-range temporal measurement devices has become necessary for characterizing high-energy petawatt laser pulses. Because of the low repetition rate of such systems, no device offers high-dynamic-range measurements in a single-shot mode. In addition, investigating the unexpected temporal behavior of pulses amplified by new techniques such as analyzed in reference [1] or the alignment complexity of a large-size petawatt-class compressor require the development of a device with a high-dynamic range and single-shot operation. We have developed a simple detection scheme that can be applied to a cross-correlator setup and improves its dynamic range by several orders of magnitude. We use an 8-bit CMOS camera that, thanks to noise reduction, yields a signal that spans over 40-dB dynamic range. With the addition of a single optical element –an optical wedge– to make a replica of the signal, we can further increase the detectable dynamic range to 60-dB without loosing the simplicity of the setup. This method is truly single shot and ideally suited for the single-shot autocorrelator setup, where the commonly admitted optical dynamic range is matched by our detection scheme.

High-dynamic-range single-shot cross-correlator based on an optical pulse replicator.

The operation of a single-shot cross-correlator based on a pulse replicator is described. The correlator uses a discrete sequence of sampling pulses that are nonlinearly mixed with the pulse under test. The combination of a high reflector and partial reflector replicates an optical pulse by multiple internal reflections and generates a sequence of spatially displaced and temporally delayed samp...

EUROPEAN ORGANIZATION FOR NUCLEAR RESEARCH CERN–SL/95/77 18 September 1995 SINGLE-SHOT TEMPORAL MEASUREMENT OF SHORT X-RAY PULSES USING VERY FAST PHOTOCONDUCTIVE DETECTORS

A report on the status of the development of picosecond photoconductive detectors is presented. The main application of these devices is the single-shot temporal measurement of picosecond X-ray, UV, and visible light pulses. We compare different materials, and describe the X-ray autocorrelator and the single-shot sampler developed in the LETI (Grenoble). Submitted to the 9th International Works...

Single-shot autocorrelator for KrF subpicosecond pulses based on two-photon fluorescence of cadmium vapor at lambda = 508 nm.

By excitation of cadmium vapor with a high-peak-power KrF excimer laser pulse, fluorescence of an atomic transition at lambda = 508 nm is induced by a two-photon ionization process followed by fast recombination. The nonlinear response of the medium is used to develop a simple single-shot autocorrelator for subpicosecond KrF excimer laser pulses operating down to intensities of less than 10(9)W...

Low-voltage high dynamic range CMOS exponential function generator

A low-voltage low-power analog CMOS exponential function generator is designed in 0.18μm CMOS standard technology. The proposed circuit uses Taylor’s approximation concept and consists of a linear low-voltage transconductance with two linearization techniques and one low-voltage current squarer circuit for performing this approximation method. Simulation results using HSPICE shows 60 dB-linear ...
